Creating well-rounded students

Why stream students into Arts or Science, when they can excel at both? Science communicator Kylie Williams explains why bridging that gap is so important.

It’s OK to combine your passion with your abilities. I wish someone had told me that back in high school. Too often, students are pigeonholed by well-meaning adults onto career paths they don’t necessarily want, like, “You’re really good at maths, you should be an accountant.” Meh (no offense to accountants).

Often artistic skills are seen as a passion, or hobby, something to indulge in when you have spare time. Math and science are skills to nurture and build into careers. Why can’t we have both?
